Diagnostic Trouble Codes

SMCS – 1900

Table 1 lists the diagnostic trouble codes that apply to the engines that are covered in this manual. Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to determine the codes that are active or logged. Then refer to the appropriate troubleshooting procedure for more information.

Table 1
List of Diagnostic Trouble Codes
J1939 Code     Code Description     Troubleshooting Procedure     ATA Code
Diagnostics Exist that Require J1939 Service Tool Connection This code indicates that Cat ET is not communicating on the J1939 data link. Cat ET must be communicating on the J1939 data link and the ATA data link in order to fully service the engine. Refer to Troubleshooting, “Electronic Service Tools” for additional information on establishing communication on both data links.

Establish communication with both data links in order to view the J1939 equivalent of the 154-14 code.
