One of the world’s leading producers of huge and notably large capacity quarry dump trucks and other heavy transport equipment for the mining and construction sectors is JSC “Belarusian Automobile Plant.”

Construction of a machine-building factory to manufacture peat equipment started in the region of the Zhodzina railway station in 1948 (following the Law on the Five-Year Plan for the Reconstruction of the National Economy of the BSSR for 1946-1950). The first plant outputs, including peat transport containers and drying shakers, were made available in May 1950.

In November of 1951, the “Peat Engineering Plant” factory changed its name to the “Dormash” Plant of Reclamation and Road Machines, where products like snow plows and brush cutters were made.

The Belarusian Automobile Plant officially became the company’s moniker on April 17, 1958. Meanwhile, on November 7, a 25-ton MAZ-525, whose manufacturer had been moved to BelAZ from the Minsk Automobile Plant, rolled off the assembly line.

In 1960, BelAZ’s design agency was tasked with developing a new dump truck optimized for use in stone quarries. In September 1961, a completely new dump truck prototype was shown; it could haul 27 tons.

BelAZ-540 27-ton dump trucks were manufactured in serial form by the company starting in 1965.

The BelAZ-548A 40-ton dump truck has been manufactured since 1967.

The BelAZ-549, a dump truck capable of hauling between 75 and 80 tons, was developed in 1968.

In 1977, prototypes of the BelAZ-7519, a simple dump truck with a 110-120-ton payload capacity, were made available.

In 1983, BelAZ started mass producing the BelAZ-75211, a dump truck that could haul between 170 and 220 tons.

With capacities ranging from 30 to 220 tons, BelAZ continued manufacturing all of its quarry dump truck types even after the fall of the Soviet Union. On the other hand, businesses started making subterranean construction machinery, metallurgy machinery, tractors, loaders, bulldozers, and other heavy transport equipment.

A new generation machine, a 55-ton BelAZ-7555 dump truck, was added to the lineup of dump trucks in 1994. In addition, numerous variants of brand-new dump trucks were made, each with its engine specs, tire options, etc.

The company started making the BelAZ-75131 130-ton dump truck in 1996, another good product.

The 320-ton capacity BelAZ-75600 quarry dump truck was first constructed as a prototype in September 2005.

BelAZ has recently created and manufactured sample batches:

  • Dump trucks with a 90-ton capacity, model BelAZ-75570
  • 45-ton dump trucks made by BelAZ-75450
  • The 320-ton BelAZ-75600 dump trucks.

The BelAZ-75601 mining dump truck, based on the BelAZ-75600, has a carrying capacity of 360 tons.

The BelAZ-75170 160-ton dump truck is one of Belaz’s recent innovations. In addition, produced were prototypes of the MaAZ-4055 9-ton underground loading and unloading truck, the BelAZ-75810 50-ton underground dump truck, the MaAZ-75054 heavy-duty dump truck, and the BelAZ-75310 240-ton quarry dump vehicle.

BelAZ-75710

The Belarusian Automobile Plant has, during its lifetime, created over 600 variations of mining dump trucks ranging in towing capacity from 27 to 360 tons, manufactured over 130,000 pieces of mining dump trucks, and exported to over 70 countries.

BelAZ-75710, the enormous dump truck in the world, was introduced in 2013. It can haul 450 tons.

BelAZ introduced a hybrid quarry dump truck in 2022, with a 130-ton payload capacity and a 55-ton quarry dump truck powertrain thanks to a low-power diesel generator. In addition, storage batteries provide extra power, allowing for reduced fuel use and associated savings.
