Not so long ago, when carrying out high-altitude work, bulky and very inconvenient stationary structures were used. To assemble and disassemble the same scaffolding, one had to spend several working days.

Everything has changed since then, when there were lifts, which are special mechanisms that allow you to safely lift people and construction equipment to great heights. Today, there are various types of construction hoists. Some of them are designed for outdoor work, and some, mobile lifts, can be successfully used indoors.

Hydraulic and pneumatic, guided and self-propelled, caterpillar and wheeled, cranked, and such scissor lifts – they all differ in their configuration, principle of operation and scope of use. What types of construction hoists exist today will be discussed in this article of the construction magazine.

Types of construction lifts

The modern market offers a wide variety of construction lifts. All of them differ not only in price, but also in characteristics that largely determine their scope of use.

So, for example, the most common types of lifts are classified into:

  • Boom lifts and scissor lifts;
  • Managed and self-propelled mechanisms;
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic;
  • Tracked and wheeled;
  • Petrol, diesel and electric.

 Scissor lifts

This type of construction lift has gained considerable popularity due to its compact size and versatility. With a sufficiently large load capacity (up to 5 tons), the scissor lift is able to cope with a large lifting height. The scissor lift platform moves strictly vertically, lowering and rising with a system of cross levers.

Scissor construction lifts can be used both outside the object and inside it. This type of lifting equipment is non-self-propelled and self-propelled, equipped with gasoline, diesel and electric motors. Due to the presence of a spacious working platform, maneuverability and high power, scissor lifts are able to cope with most tasks for lifting equipment to great heights. A lot of owner’s maintenance manuals for scissor lifts are available for download.

Articulated Boom lifts

Such construction hoists are equipped with a small working platform, usually single, which is mounted on a special boom. The lift boom can move both vertically and diagonally. As a result, this type of construction lift has received the greatest application in the installation and connection of power lines.

Articulated lifts are able to provide a safe lift to a height of more than 40 meters, and due to their small dimensions, such lifts are very manoeuvrable. The movement of mechanisms in cranked lifts is carried out due to the diesel or gasoline electric motor installed in them. A lot of owner’s maintenance manuals for articulated boom lifts are available for download.

Mast lifts

They are another type of construction lifts. The design of mast lifts consists of several rigidly fixed trusses that raise and lower the cabin vertically. Depending on the purpose, there are cargo and passenger-and-freight mast lifts designed to lift people to a certain height.

This type of construction hoist, first of all, has received the greatest application in construction, for transporting goods and people to a height of up to fifty meters. Without the use of mast lifts, it would not be possible to perform many construction, installation and finishing works. A lot of owner’s maintenance manuals for mast lifts are available for download.

Facade construction cradle

The simplest type of construction hoists are facade cradles. The lifting of the platform to a height, in this case, occurs through a system of cables, the movement of which is often manually driven.

Cable lifting mechanisms attract with their availability and low cost, small size and low weight. However, this type of lifting equipment is not always safe, and it is not able to cope with high heights and the same amount of construction work.
