Renault Midlum medium-duty trucks with a GVW of 7.5–18 tons have been produced since 2001. Completely redesigned in 2006, with a narrow cab for this class, minimal overhangs, and a short wheelbase, this model is ideal for navigating tight city streets. In addition, 4×2 and 4×4 chassis are produced with 19 wheelbase options in the range of 2700-6800 mm, which allows you to install a cargo platform with a proper length of 3 to 10 meters. Cabins with a width of 2100 mm are offered in the following versions: Day Day (1.6 m long), Universal Global (2 m), Sleeper Sleeper (2.2 m), and 4-door (2.98 m). Doors may have a glazed bottom. In addition, steps with anti-slip coating are provided.
In the new interior of the cabin, the location of the gear lever, atypical for this class of cars, on the ledge of the front panel attracts attention. In the instrument cluster, a large tachometer dial is installed in the center, in the lower part of which there is a display showing the speed – this is exclusive to Renault trucks. The car is equipped with new generation engines: a 4-cylinder 4.8-liter DXi5 (160, 190, 220 hp) and a 6-cylinder 7.2-liter DXi7 (240, 280 hp).
Built using a high-pressure Common Rail injection system (1600 bar) and SCR selective catalytic reduction technology, in which AdBlue additive is injected into the exhaust system (to reduce the concentration of nitrogen oxides), the engines meet Euro 4 / Euro 5 standards. On request, engines can be equipped with a CCV (Closed Crankcase Ventilation) gas recirculation system in the crankcase. A metal oil pan with a significant capacity of 13 liters is installed on the Dxi5 engine, due to which the oil change interval has increased to 80 thousand km. On the Dxi7, with a sump capacity of 27 liters, the oil change interval is 100,000 km.
5, 6, and 9-speed manual transmissions are used. The latter is equipped with a Servoshift servo switch and switches according to the “Super-H” scheme with overlay gears: 5-8 to 1-4. There are also two Allison automatic transmissions for the Midlum series. One is equipped with a built-in hydraulic retarder, which the EBS electronic braking system can manually or automatically control.

The frame, made of high-elasticity HLE steel, has five strength options (Extra Light, Medium-Light, Light, Medium, Heavy). Suspension – mechanical, with parabolic springs, airbags can be installed at the rear. Starting in 2007, optional air suspension will also be fitted up front.
