Dynapac, headquartered in Sweden, is the market leader in mobile compactors for asphalt and other road surfaces.

It began in Stockholm in 1934 under the name AB Vibro-Betong. One Hilding Svenson, a mechanical engineer, invented the vibratory compactor in 1936. The firm became known as AB Vibro-Verken in the year 1940.

In 1947, he introduced the world’s first vibratory plate compactor, a 1.5-ton machine affectionately dubbed the “frog.” It started making vibratory rollers in 1953 after establishing a research lab in 1948. The Karlskrona location was opened in 1960 and is where the company’s technical center is. After its release in 1970, the CA 25 road roller quickly established itself as the industry standard. In 1973, the business rebranded itself as Dynapac Maskin AB and began aggressively expanding its product offerings. Vibratory rollers were the company’s bread and butter.

Dynapac Manufacturing Incorporated established a plant and administrative offices at 20 Continental Drive, Stanhope, New Jersey. There were many buildings on the site, as well as a tennis court, for the use of staff. Up to the plant’s closure in 1987, a wide range of rollers and “light equipment” were produced here. Corporate headquarters relocated to Hackettstown, but manufacturing operations left the state. More than 20 years passed while the Stanhope facility was abandoned. A carton company bought the leftover machinery and equipment in the early 2000s, and much of it was still in working order. There was a period of abandonment, and once the buildings were bought, they were drastically altered. With the exception of the machine shop and paint building, only the main production facility is still standing. Even though security guards have been using the abandoned office building regularly, the building is now vacant.
