In 1947, the Yuejin Automobile Plant was erected in Nanjing on the foundation of an auto repair shop and an army maintenance facility. The building of the auto factory included extensive participation by specialists from the USSR. The Nanjing Automobile company first built NJ-130 trucks, which were the equivalent of the Soviet 2.5-ton GAZ-51 trucks, while also planning to construct an auto components complex.
To increase the competitiveness of its automobiles, Nanjing Auto has subsequently implemented cutting-edge technologies time and time again. Due to collaboration with the Japanese Isuzu and aggressive purchases of technological equipment from the Italian firms Iveco and Fiat in the middle of the 1980s, one of the Iveco Daily variants could be produced in Nanjing. The Yuejin Motor Corporation was renamed Nanjing Automobile by the Chinese government in 1995, and international investors started managing the company in 2002. Presently, automobiles, agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles, and minibusses are all produced under the Yuejin name.
At present, there are three models of Yuejin vehicles in the commercial vehicle market:
- truck Yuejin NJ 1020 with a carrying capacity of 0.935 tons;
- truck Yuejin NJ 1041 with a carrying capacity of up to 1.4 tons;
- truck Yuejin NJ 1080 with a carrying capacity of 5 tons.
In addition, each model is produced with three standard sizes of cabins:
- standard (single) triple;
- one and a half triple;
- two-row six-seater.
All models are available in two versions:
- sidecar;
- chassis for installing various modules.
Based on the Yuejin truck chassis, the following are produced:
- furniture and isothermal vans;
- refrigerators;
- tow trucks.

Many technical innovations that have already been tried and proven by Japanese manufacturers are used in Yuejin truck design. Yuejin trucks have successfully reclaimed market share that used imported and brand-new domestic light and medium-duty vehicles had previously held thanks to this succession.
The Yuejin truck is praised for its dependability, simplicity of use, low fuel consumption, maintainability, and affordable cost of spare parts. Chinese vehicles are not without their share of drawbacks. Owners of Yuejin cars typically gripe about the car’s harsh suspension, sluggish gearbox operation, tiny single cab, and the necessity for frequent braking system adjustments. Owners of Yuejin NJ 1041 and NJ 1080 vehicles frequently lack platform width and engine power.
