Over the course of its 19 years in business, Vantage Vehicle has achieved considerable success thanks in large part to its recognition that the demands of the fleet vehicle industry are consistent across regions.
To begin producing golf course utility vehicles in 1999, Vantage followed the trend of its competitors at the time, Daihatsu and Mitsubishi, and used gasoline internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains. However, by 2001, Vantage had realized that the golf and turf market was too limited, so the company shifted gears and began targeting other sectors for its off-road utility fleet sales. These sectors now include businesses, universities, airports, factories, resorts, farms, municipalities, parks, zoos, and even military bases.
Vantage Vehicle is profitable because their vehicles have lower running expenses than standard fleet vehicles like the Ford F-150. The average F-150 has a 4-liter gas-powered engine and uses around 18 cents worth of gas each mile to run. The fuel expenditures for a Vantage car with a 1-liter internal combustion engine are only 10 cents per mile.
Due to the potential for additional reductions in operational expenses for fleet operations, Vantage Vehicle opted in 2005 to develop an electric vehicle platform. Three-quarters of Vantage’s total car sales have been EVs since the company launched its first EV in 2007. Operating fuel expenditures for fleet clients employing Vantage electric cars may be reduced to less than 5 cents per mile.
