Atlas Weyhausen / Weycor background information

Between 2010 and 2016, the German firm Atlas GmbH was known as Atlas Maschinen GmbH. However, either name accurately describes the company’s reputation as a global leader in the construction equipment industry. Ganderkesee is home to the company’s headquarters.

This firm specializes in producing both large and medium-sized wheeled and tracked excavators. Their product line also includes tower cranes, crawler and wheel loaders, and excavators of varying sizes. A total of roughly 500 individuals were working at the company’s three manufacturing facilities in 2013.

This year, in 2019, Atlas will be 100 years old. A countdown clock on the company’s website displays the number of days till the anniversary. Established in 1919 in the German town of Delmenhorst, in the state of Lower Saxony, Hinrich Weyhausen KG is a manufacturer of agricultural machinery and lifting equipment.

Atlas is a trademark that has been around since 1936. Around the turn of the century, the first hydraulic excavator was developed. A world leader in excavators by the 1960s, Hinrich Weyhausen KG never stopped refining its original concept. As of 1962, the company’s factories employed over a thousand people.

Company founder Hinrich Weyhausen passed away, and Günther Weyhausen took over as CEO. A rebranding effort resulted in Atlas Weyhausen GmbH. When the company’s founders ran into financial trouble around the turn of the century, they sold the company to EDER Handel und Beteiligungen GmbH, which later sold it to Westport, Connecticut, manufacturer Terex, Inc., to supply its growing demand for construction equipment in the United States.

The company name changed to Atlas Terex GmbH. The company’s decline under the new leadership was so severe that it was sold to an investor for a single euro in March 2010. Filippov’s new company is called Atlas Machines, Inc.

Filippov purchased the Kaelble trademark from Terex six months later. Following a name change a half decade later, Atlas Maschinen GmbH became simply Atlas GmbH, and since then, the firm has branded all of its wares with this moniker.

A total of four plants in Germany are currently responsible for manufacturing Atlas machinery. Ganderkese, in the state of Lower Saxony, is home to the company’s headquarters. Different-sized wheeled and tracked excavators may be found in the company’s output. Delmenhorst, about 10 km east of Ganderkese, is home to another facility. Manufacturing lifting gear is the company’s main focus.
